Responsibilities

You are the Responsible Person for fire safety if you are deemed to have control of the premises?

​

As the owner, landlord, or individual with ultimate control over a business premises, you are legally obligated to adhere to fire safety regulations.

​

There are many factors the Responsible Person must consider in this role, to ensure compliance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

  • Visual inspection for defects

  • Checking the extinguisher has not been used or tampered with.

  • Taking a reading of the pressure gauge

  • Removing the discharge hose to check for blockages or corrosion.

  • Weigh and clean the extinguisher.

  • Ensure wall mountings are secure.

  • Changing O Rings and washers

  • Check signage is correct

Over Considerations 

The responsible person also must also carry out monthly visual checks of all fire extinguishers.

This includes making sure units are in the correct locations, highlighted by appropriate fire safety signage, no visual damage or corrosion, and have intact safety pins.
