Emergency Lighting Testing & Maintenance in Chelmsford, Essex & London
If the power fails or a fire breaks out, emergency lighting guides people safely out of your building. It must be tested regularly, and your records must prove it.
Fire First provides emergency lighting testing, certification and repairs for businesses, landlords and managing agents across Chelmsford, Essex and London. As a qualified electrician, I bring real technical understanding of how these systems work.
What we do
-
Annual full-duration testing: A complete discharge test, typically three hours, to confirm every light still operates for its rated duration
-
Inspection of every fitting: Checking for faults, damage and faded or failed batteries
-
Test certificates: Provided for your compliance records
-
Repairs and replacements: Lamps, batteries and full fittings
-
Surveys and new installations: Where your coverage is inadequate
Testing follows BS 5266-1, the code of practice for emergency lighting.
Your legal responsibility
Emergency lighting must be maintained in working order under the Fire Safety Order, and your logbook must show tests have been carried out. If you can’t prove it, you may be treated as if you haven’t done it.
Testing schedule
-
Monthly: A short functional “flick” test, which you or your staff can do in-house, or we can do for you
-
Annually: A full-duration test, which must be carried out by a competent person
We can handle the annual test only, or set up a contract that covers everything, with reminders so nothing is missed.

We identify them, issue a report, provide a quotation to repair or replace
Do I need emergency lighting?
If people use your building, in most cases yes. Your fire risk assessment will confirm what’s required.
